Pfund Wet Film Thickness Gauge
The Pfund Wet Film Thickness Gauge consists of a spherical convex surface which is forced through the wet paint layer. An oversized circular paint spot is formed on the glass lens, corresponding to the sum of the thicknesses of both the original undisturbed paint film and the displaced paint film that wets the glass.

- Ideal for measuring the thickness of wet translucent products such as varnish, laquers and oils etc.
- A simple 1:1 ratio has been assumed between these two variable thicknesses and used to construct the table furnished with the instrument.
- Used to measure wet film thickness up to 14.2 mils (360 µm)
- Conforms to ASTM D1212
- The Pfund Paint Film Gauge is described in detail in “Physical and Chemical Examination of Paints, Varnishes, Lacquers, and Colors” by H.A. Gardner and G.G. Sward, 13th Edition, (1972).
