Wire-wound metering rods, often called “Mayer rods” popularized after their inventor Charles Mayer who developed the rods in the 1920’s, are stainless steel rods tightly wrapped with stainless steel wire.

The 10 inch wire wound rods have dimensions specified for the North American market.

  • Ideal for uniform drawdowns of thin films
  • One inch of space on both ends for easy handling

Procedure

  • Place substrate to be coated on smooth surface
  • Place film applicator on substrate
  • Pour coating in front of gap in pulling direction
  • Pull at uniform speed (approx. 25 mm/s)
  • Put applicator immediately into diluted cleaning solvent and clean with brush
