The Falling Sand Abrasion Tester is a popular apparatus used to measure the resistance to abrasion of paint, lacquers and other organic coatings. Abrasion results from abrasive particles falling through a guide tube and impinging the test specimen, until the substrate becomes visible.
Features
Determine the resistance of coatings of paint, varnish, lacquer, and related products to abrasion by falling sand.
consists of an 8" diameter sand reservoir which includes a 60° taper funnel.
A sturdy base and support system hold the apparatus in a vertical position.
Meets ASTM D968: Abrasion Resistance of Organic Coatings by the Falling Sand Abrasive Tester
Ottawa natural silica sand is considered standard for this tester because of its known characteristics.
Specially graded, natural Ottawa silica sand will pass a No. 20 (850 µm) sieve and be retained on a No. 30 (600µ) sieve.
