Looking for Custom Wet Film Thickness Gauges? Paul N. Gardner Has Answers. Speak to an Expert Today!

Wet Film Thickness Gauges are designed to quickly and easily measure the thickness of coatings immediately after they have been applied to a substrate. These gauges are also commonly known as: Comb, MIL, Step and Notched Gauges and they come in many scales, shapes and sizes. They are used to measure coatings including paints, resins, lacquers, varnishes, and gel coats.

They incorporate a series of cut notches, also known as teeth, and as the outside notches touch the substrate surface the coating depth is determined by which inside notches have been marked with the coating when removed. Gauges are available in either "1 to 80 MIL" Scale or "20 to 2000 Micron" Scale.

They are easy to use, simply place the wet film thickness gauge at a ninety-degree angle perpendicular to the freshly coated substrate until it has made full contact against the surface. Wait a few seconds and withdraw the gauge vertically. Upon examination you'll notice some of the notches are wet with the coating and some are not.

Your film thickness will be the value between the last coated notch and the first uncoated one, according to your required specification.

Be sure to clean the gauge after each use, and don't forget to inquire about our custom designed gauges.
