Adhesion can be defined as the ability of two unlike surfaces to stay attached to each other. The ability to maintain this attachment at rest or under stress is especially important when applying a coating to a surface. There are many methods to quantify the adhesion of a coating to a surface, to include scrape adhesion, cross hatch adhesion, cross cut adhesion, pull off adhesion, paint adhesion test tape, wet adhesion rollers, and mar testing, as well as others. There are also many ASTM, DIN, ISO and JIS adhesion test methods that can be used for standardized testing.
