OPERATION

Samples are tested in standard paint industry cans (1 pint, 1/2 pint, or 1 quart) held by a centering and retaining fixture. The container is filled to within 3/4" (20mm) of the top and located on the viscometer base

The operating lever has three positions:.

Up	Spindle stationary, drive motor off
Down	Spindle rotating, sample being measured

The displayed reading can be held by depressing the HOLD switch at any time. With the viscometer in the
HOLD configuration, the display may be switched to compare the Krebs (KU) or Centipoise (cP) reading
with the associated gram (gm) reading. If the spindle is stalled, no damage will result, as a torque-limiting
circuit protects the spindle drive.

For best reproducibility of sample measurements, the test material should be preconditioned for temperature and shear stability.

Please note:

The cP reading from the KU-2 will not necessarily agree with cP values
measured with other instrumentation due to:

Unique shear rate of the KU-2 paddle spindle.

Uniqueness of the Krebs unit scale. (The centipoise value should not be used for purposes of calibration.

Use only Brookfield KU mineral oils for calibration check.

The cP readings will only be valid when using the paddle spindle.

The paste spindle may not be used to determine cP.
