The Brookfield Falling Ball Viscometer measures viscosity in accordance with the test method defined in DIN 53015 (Höppler principle) to measure the viscosity of Newtonian liquid by measuring the time required for a ball to fall under gravity through a sample-filled tube. The tube is mounted on a pivot bearing which quickly allows rotation of the tube 180 degrees, thereby allowing a repeat test to run immediately. Three measurements are taken and the average time it takes for the ball to fall is the result used. A conversion formula turns the time reading into a final viscosity value.
The Falling Ball Viscometer is used for quality control in various industries as well as in academic institutions to illustrate scientific method. The ease of use and straightforward method for recording time measurements ensures meaningful test results.
There are two models available:
Model KF10 which has the fixed angle of 80 degrees in accordance with the DIN 53015.
Model KF20 which has variable angle settings of 80, 70, 60 and 50 degrees for greater flexibility in testing a broader range of materials. Both models are provided with a set of 6 balls, each with a separate viscosity measurement range. Also included is a temperature probe which can be inserted into the enclosure around the sample tube. The operator manual explains how to convert the time measurement into a viscosity value.
