DPM 100

Digital Pocket Microscope

The Digital Pocket Microscope offers up to 200X magnifications, suitable for most quality inspection work.

The DPM contains a high-resolution color camera offering crisp, clear images. The integrated LED illumination can be switched off, which allows optional illumination for special investigations. The red button on the DPM is pressed to capture an image. With the DPM placed directly upon a surface, the focus wheel has two positions giving different magnification levels.

The DPM can also be placed on a distance above the test surface and will then view a larger area. The optional DPM metal holder has a rubber O-ring at the end to protect painted surfaces from being scratched (shown in photo).

The DPM Concept
The DPM product is primarily a software package designed for advanced measurements that comply with applicable ISO/IEC 13660:1997/E. To operate the software we have included a high-resolution USB microscope which we buy as OEM. So, we sell the DPM software and include a “free” microscope whereas the less costly models sell their USB microscopes and include “free” software. The DPM Standard version offers a manual approach where the operator clicks in the image to get a test results. You can find similar functions in some of the cheap look-alike products but the DPM features with automatic calibration, background correction in real time, the image quality, the multiple language support and the data base structure puts the DPM Standard version far ahead of our competitors easy to see with a naked eye.

When you buy the DPM Standard it comes with a Free 30 day  trial of the Advance software package which has access to all the latest test functions found in the DPM Advanced. Here you will  find fully automatic tests that measure quality of Dots and Barcode lines, Mottling, Graininess, Missing Dots and Color, also included is a extensive 40 page DPM User’s Manual. These automatic test functions should be highly relevant to paper makers and converters and there is nothing similar available among the  competitors they offer  an 8-page manual just explaining how to install the program into the computer. All upgrades and updates  for the DPM are available directly through the Internet.

DPM Metal Holder
DPM Metal Holder

  • Very Portable - as it connects directly to the USB port
  • High Resolution 1600 x 1200 Pixels - offers crisp full color images at a resolution down to 1.4 μm per pixel
  • Automatic Calibration of Light and Scale Factor - gives correct and accurate measurements
  • Genuine Database Archiving - keeps track of all images and results
  • Superimposed Tags For Comments Directly On The Image
  • Destructive Film Thickness - The v-shaped cut from the Tooke Gage can be easily stored as an image with film thickness information in mm. Using the distance tool you can determine the coating thickness from the cut
  • Evaluation of the Adhesion of a Coating - Store the image into the DPM Software database and view the cross-cut on the screen and evaluate the edges, lines, shapes and defects of the cross-cut image
  • Measures Directly In Live & Captured Images - Distance, Circles, Areas
  • Delivery Includes: Hard padded instrument case - Instrument metal stand - CD with the DPM software - User’s Manual in English
  • Multiple-Language Support With Free Software Upgrades And User’s Manuals - European languages, Chinese, Japanese, Korean
  • Optional Live Automatic Image Analysis (Advanced Version) - Dots, Lines, Text, Barcodes, Shapes, Satellites, Voids, Graininess, Mottling and more
  • Applications Are Endless - Print quality, Paper structure, Coating, Textile, Forensic, Medical, Electronics, Agricultural, …
  • Works with Windows XP - Windows 2000 - Windows Vista (32 and 64) - Windows 7 (32 and 64)

DPM Advanced Measurements Achieved with Anaylisis Software
Dots & Satellites
The Dot function determines the number of Dots, Average area size (mm2) and their covered area (%) together with the corresponding data for detected Satellites inside the defined region.
Dots & Satellites

Lines
The Line function will automatically characterize the Leading and Trailing edges of a line with respect to the Angle. Blurriness, Raggedness together with the Width (mm) and Contrast of the line according to the ISO 13660 specifications.
Lines

Shapes
The Shape function will automatically characterize the Area (mm2), Widths (mm), Height (mm) and Perimeter (mm) of a selected object inside the defined Region.
Shapes

Voids
Voids are detected when a solid black area has white, unprinted spots in it. The Voids must be within the size limits defined by the Voids parameter. The DPM program will count the number of detected Voids inside the defined
Voids

Mottling & Graininess
Mottling and Graininess characterize how evenly a uniformly printed area appears to the human eye. For Graininess, the high frequency variations are characterized from sub-images (tiles) of different sizes from 0.042 mm (0.0018 mm2) up to 1.02 mm where the smaller tiles will divide the defined region into more sub-images (Count). The variation between the sub-images of a particular grid size is then calculated as the standard deviation (S.D).

Finally the different standard deviations are averaged into one single Graininess number. Mottling describes the low frequency pattern and here only a single Grid size of 1.27 mm is used to calculate the variation. According to ISO 13660 the region must be at least 161 mm2 (12.7 x 12.7 mm) in which case the DPM instrument must be installed on a stand to obtain 100 tiles for mottling.
