Tramex MRH

The Complete Instrument for Moisture and Humidty Testing

The NEW MRH provides non-destructive, deep signal penetration, digital moisture percentage readings on different species of wood. Plus, it provides relative readings deep into most building materials such as Drywall, Roofing, Plaster, Brick, Ceramic tile, etc. There is also the additonal option of the Hygrometer mode to measure relative humidity, temperature and dew-point by simply plugging in a Tramex Relative Humidity Probe.

The MRH Offers benefits such as:

  • Four selectable scales of sensitivity optimized for testing Wood, Drywall, Roofing, Brick, Plaster, Ceramic tile and more.
  • Selectable Wood Specific Gravity adjustments from 0.30 to 0.80 for most commonly used work species.
  • Clear digital display shows wood readings in percentage moisture content in increments of 0.1% The "0 to 100 Comparative Scale" is for other materials.
  • Hygrometer mode measures Relative Humidity, displaying readings in both grains per pound/grams per kilo and % relative humidity, as well as temperature and dew point readings.
The hygrometer mode is activated by simply plugging in the fast reacting Tramex Relative Humidity Probe.  This relative humidity probe option is perfect for those in industries such as Water Damage Restoration, IAQ/Mold Remediation.

For contractors in the Flooring industry, this option also provides the ability to perform the new ASTM F 2170-02 “Insitu” and ASTM F 2420- 05 “Hood” relative humidity testing of concrete slabs, as well as ambient conditions.

How It Works

MRH Diagram

The MRH operates on the principle of electrical impedance measurement to give accurate non-destructive moisture readings in wood, masonry, roofing, drywall, ceramic tiles and other construction materials.

The electrical impedance of a material varies with its moisture content. The electrical impedance is measured by creating a low frequency alternating electric field between the electrodes as illustrated. This field penetrates the material under test. The very small alternating current flowing through the field is inversely proportional to the impedance of the material. The instrument detects this current, determines its amplitude and derives the moisture content which is displayed by the instrument.

In Hygrometer mode, the MRH determines the capacitance of the RH probe sensor which varies with the relative humidity of the testing environment. The MRH displays this capacitance as percentage relative humidity (%RH)
