Positest Operating Instructions
1. Purpose
A.
For the non-destructive measurement of non-magnetic coating on steel.
2. Procedure
A.
Place gauge on surface to be measured. With your index finger rotate the scale wheel forward (counterclockwise) until probe makes contact with the surface, then slowly and steadily turn scale wheel backwards (clockwise) until a click is heard and the yellow indicator appears. At this point read coating thickness on the scale. Note: Surface to be measured must be free from dirt, oil or grease.
B.
When measuring on rod or cylindrical materials, align the “V” groove in the probe housing and instrument base with the rod or cylinder.
3. Calibration
A.
All PosiTest gauges are factory calibrated to NIST Standards.
B.
When measuring on rough surface or odd shaped substrates, the PosiTest may require recalibration by means of the following procedure:
1.
Remove cover in center of glass.
Holding the scale wheel securely, insert ball point of pen or similar object into one of the four holes exposed in the center of the dial. Rotate right or left to effect proper calibration.
Replace cover securely in center of glass.
2.
3.
C.
Never recalibrate PosiTest on shim stock. Only on thickness standards having an applied coating.
4. Care
A.
Never expose the PosiTest to any magnetic fields.
B.
Periodically check the probe tip for foreign matter, removing same with a clean, dry brush or soft cloth.
C.
When not in use always return the gauge to its carrying case.
