3 - Speed BK Gel Timer

The New 3-Speed BK Gel Timer is a restyled model of the original 2-speed machine and operates at speeds of 60, 120 and 240 minutes. Covers are constructed of black and silver anodized aluminum. Accurate timing is effected by means of a lead screw which runs the length of the table and is engaged by a spring loaded half nut connected to a stainless steel bridge, carrying six spring loaded sleeves.

Six needles are firmly gripped between these sleeves and travel over six stainless steel troughs into which the gel has been poured. The lead screw is driven by a continuously rated synchronous motor, through a 3-speed gear box. The required speed is being selected by a graduated knob.

Method of Use
  1. Select the required speed by turning the speed control knob in a clockwise direction and sliding in or pulling out to the required speed. Release knob.
  2. Apply release agent to the interior surfaces of the stainless steel troughs and, when quite dry, fill the stainless steel troughs with the gel to be tested and place them on the recorder.
  3. Lift the release lever at the back of the needle carrier and slide the carrier to the starting position.
  4. Locate needles in the spring loaded carrier, so that the lower ends are well submerged in the gel (the bottom of the needle approximately 1/8 inch above the bottom of the stainless steel trough).
  5. Switch on and the needles will now commence the run along the troughs. On reaching the end of the travel, the carrier automatically stops. Switch off.
  6. The gel time is determined by the reading on the appropriate scale of the position of the needle at the moment of its release from the spring loaded sleeve.
