The HATE Mark VII coating adhesion testers offer the coating industry new capabilities, from the lab technician and paint chemist to the field inspector and corrosion engineer. The adhesion strength specified can now be proved to have been achieved - even on and in, tubulars in the most awkward positions!
The design of the HATE tester is simple. Load is applied through the center of the dolly by a hydraulic piston and pin (Fig. 1). The hemispherical tip of the pin ensures a point loading of the force. Consequently, the force reacted in the dolly is a uniform, purely tensile load. The diameter of the piston bore is sized so that the area of the bore is equal to the net area of the dolly. Therefore, the pressure reacted by the dolly is the same as the pressure in the bore which is transmitted directly to a pressure gauge. This area ratio of 1:1 and a direct reading from a pressure gauge ensures repeatable accuracy. The accuracy of the HATE tester is ± 1%, this comparing to an accuracy of ± 10% for mechanical adhesion testers. |
