The Elcometer 106 adhesion tester is easy to operate, fully portable, and provides a numerical value for adhesion.
There are numerous applications: paint or plasma spray on metal, membrane on bridge decking, coatings on concrete or brick, laminates on particle board— to name just a few.
The carrying case includes all you need to start testing. The instrument is hand operated so you don't have to worry about a power supply. |
The test dolly (which has a contact surface area of 1/2 square inch (3.14 sq. cm) is bonded to the coating using an appropriate adhesive usually the twin-pack epoxy resin adhesive supplied. Curing must be complete before the test can proceed and 24 hours is the recommended curing time. After curing, the Dolly Cutter can be used to cut through the coating around the dolly. This ensures that the lift force is applied to the specified measured area of the dolly and the claw of the instrument is engaged with the dolly. The dragging indicator is set to zero. A load is applied by the operator slowly and smoothly turning the handwheel (or ratchet spanner for the higher load Scales 3 and 4), compressing the spring and hence increasing the lift-off force on the dolly.
When the dolly and coating are removed from the substrate, the dragging indicator records the maximum pull-off force applied.
If a minimum specification has been laid down for adhesion values, the operator should observe the indicator on the scale and stop applying a load when the specification value is reached. The handwheel/ratchet spanner may be slackened and the adhesion tester removed with the dolly still bonded to the surface. The test may be made non-destructive by leaving the aluminum dolly in position, or sawing the dolly at the neck, and the remainder painted over. The Base Support Ring should be used when testing coatings on thin or flexible substrates,
ensuring that the load applied does not bend the surface which would cause the dolly to break away prematurely. The Magnetic Clamp is a useful aid when bonding dollies to magnetic surfaces. |

The Elcometer 106/6 adhesion tester has been specifically designed to measure coatings on concrete.
Operating in a similar way to the rest of the Elcometer 106 Adhesion Testers, the 106/6 allows for a 50mm (2”) larger dolly for testing coatings on concrete.
Fully portable and comes in a carrying case - ideal for site tests. Hand operated so you don’t have to worry about a power supply. |
